DESCRIPTION

The Modnestic 10PCS Damaged Bolt Extractor Set is ten hardened extractors for bolts and studs that are snapped off, rusted solid, or rounded past the point a wrench can hold.

Each extractor is one piece: a thick 1/2" hex body with a short, coarse reverse-spiral cone above it. The reverse flutes cut their own grip into whatever is left of the head — the harder the bolt resists, the deeper they wedge in, until the bolt turns and backs out with the extractor.

No welding, no cutting wheel, no drilling the whole bolt away and re-tapping the thread. The original thread stays intact.

Each number is the diameter of the spiral tip and the pilot drill size it needs. The bolt being removed is always larger than this number.

HOW TO USE

Two situations, two starting points.

If the head is still there but the Allen socket is rounded out — pick the extractor that sits snug in the recess, tap it in, and turn counter-clockwise. No drilling. The rounded socket is already your pilot hole.

If the bolt has snapped off flush — center-punch it, drill a pilot hole straight down the middle with a standard twist bit, then seat the extractor in that hole.

Either way: fit a 1/2" socket over the hex body and turn counter-clockwise. An impact wrench is fastest, but a ratchet or breaker bar works. Steady pressure does the work, not speed.

If the bolt is rusted solid, give it penetrating oil and twenty minutes before you start.

What you'll need: a 1/2" socket on an impact wrench, ratchet or breaker bar. A drill and standard twist bit only if the head has snapped off completely.

Will this work on a bolt that's snapped off flush? +

That's one of the two cases it's built for. Center-punch the stub, drill a pilot hole down the middle, then drive the extractor in. The reverse spiral cuts its own grip inside the hole, so there's nothing left to slip out of.

Which size do I need? +

You don't measure the bolt. Drill the largest pilot hole the broken bolt will take without cutting into the surrounding thread, then pick the extractor stamped with that same size.

The number on each extractor is the diameter of its spiral tip, which is also the pilot drill size it needs. The bolt you are removing is always larger than that number — the extractor works from inside a hole drilled in the bolt.

If the head is still there and only the Allen socket is rounded out, skip the drilling: pick the extractor that sits snug in the recess.

What tools do I need? +

A 1/2" socket on an impact wrench, ratchet or breaker bar. The extractor body is a 1/2" hex, so it's driven by a socket rather than a drill chuck. You only need a drill if the bolt snapped off flush and you have to make a pilot hole first.

My Allen bolt is rounded out. Do I have to drill it? +

No. The rounded socket is already your pilot hole. Pick the extractor that sits snug in the recess, tap it in, and turn counter-clockwise. This is the fastest case the kit handles.

What's the difference between the 10PCS and the 14PCS set? +
